Choosing a Pro to Connect with on Xposure Music

Choosing a Pro to Connect with on Xposure Music
Record

Whether you’re an aspiring artist or an experienced musician, receiving constructive feedback on your music is critical to growth and development. Xposure Music connects you with industry professionals who can offer insightful advice to help you hone your craft and has a large selection of verified Pros to work with, but with so many experts to choose from, how do you find the right one for you? In this comprehensive guide, we will break down the key factors to consider when selecting the ideal music industry professional for personalized feedback or a one-on-one call on Xposure Music.

Factor #1: Your Goals

Before you get started with booking a Pro for feedback or a call, it is important to assess where you are in your music career and what kind of advice you need to move forward. For example, if you’ve booked several shows on your own, you likely do not need to seek out a conversation with an agent. On the other hand, if you have many professional tracks and want to understand how to begin monetizing them, you’ll definitely want to speak with someone in sync licensing or the publishing world. Some questions to ask yourself include: What genre do I identify with? What artists have had careers that I want to emulate? What exactly do I want help with?

Factor #2: Genre

Every genre is different in regard to production style, audiences, marketing tactics, consumption, and more. For example, a hip-hop artist may not get the most value out of booking time with a classical composer, but might find tons of insight in speaking to an A&R at Def Jam who has worked with 2 Chainz. What you’re looking to improve upon will inform if genre is a key factor for your feedback this time around. For example, If your question is geared toward the music industry, such as “How does publishing work?” then genre will play less of a role. However, If you relate heavily to a genre and have a question like “Is my track ready to be promoted on Spotify for up-and-coming rap music playlists?” you will likely want to choose someone who is also well-versed in that space.

Factor #3: Artist History

Each Pro on Xposure Music lists artists with whom they’ve worked on their profile. Artists a Pro has worked with can provide insight into a Pros accomplishments and track record. If specific artists serve as major inspiration to you, or are on a trajectory you specifically admire, this part of a Pro’s background may be the most important thing to look at. You can click on Pro’s profiles to see the artists they have worked with, or you can search for an artist’s name on the Explore Pros page. Once you search for an artist, all Pros who are working with (or have worked with) that artist will appear.

Factor #4: Geography

You never know what a Pro may recommend if they are familiar with the area where you work and live. For example, if you see that a Pro grew up in Philadelphia and you’re an artist there currently, they may be a great person to connect with considering their network, knowledge of local venues and promoters, and more.

Factor #5: Area of Expertise

The music industry is multi-faceted. The professionals on Xposure Music come from various subsections within the music industry, such as producers, A&R representatives, managers, and songwriters. Each role has its unique perspective and can provide different types of feedback. For example, a producer can give you insights into improving your song's production, while an A&R representative can provide feedback on your overall marketability and potential for success in the industry. Consider what type of perspective you'd like to gain from the feedback and choose a professional accordingly

The right Xposure Music Pro will be someone who can answer the questions you have currently and who has expertise in what you’re working on now, and where you want to go with your music career.
